16:00 Eco-cities: two cities, two paths towards sustainability - and a sustainability index
There are no excuses; sustainability is attainable for new and old cities. One session presents an established Japanese Model Eco-city, the other session a new city being built in India. Each has experieced its own challenges and successes on the path to sustainability. Hear about their respective journeys.
The STAR Community Index is a national, consensus-based framework for gauging the sustainability and livability of U.S. communities currently being developed through a partnership between ICLEI, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and the Center for American Progress (CAP). Much as LEEDtm transformed the building industry, STAR will transform the way local governments set priorities and implement policies and practices to improve their sustainability performance.
